1st Bradley Stoke Scout Group Marching Band Project needs your help.
September 22nd, 2015
Our Scout group have been busy with a new project to start a marching band. We were motivated to do this initially because of the difficulty we have faced in finding a band for our annual Remembrance parade, but creating such a group would also have many more potential benefits.
A marching band would enable our young people to learn a new skill (music) which has been proven to increase both confidence & concentration. It would promote a physical activity (marching) that improves fitness & co-ordination (this is especially relevant to those young people who do not enjoy sports). It would also ensure greater integration between our age groups and engage with our wider community through public performances. Once established, the band may also have the potential to offer membership to other Scout & Guide groups to forge new relationships within our locality.
We recently held a very successful open evening that saw the amazing 37th Kingswood marching band coming along to show our youngsters how they create such an impressive sound. We are indebted to them & their volunteers for their invaluable advice & on-going support.
As with anything that involves the Scout group, we are totally reliant on a team of adult volunteers to ensure success. If you have any musical ability, band leading or marching expertise we would be very pleased to hear from you. We are also looking for a suitable venue to rent (at a reasonable cost) to provide suitable practice space. We have applied for a local grant that, if successful, will mean we can purchase a few instruments, but if anyone has any redundant brass instruments or drums in a usable condition we would be very happy to hear from you.
