1st Stoke Gifford Scout Troop (OSR) achievements

Scouts from The Old School Rooms in Stoke Gifford have had a very active and productive last few months. The troop which meet on a Wednesday evening between 7-9pm have competed and won the district draughts competition, helped The Royal British Legion with Poppy Day collections and in the process become one of the first troops to be awarded the Poppy Badge which is new and only eligible to scouts from Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire counties.
Nine scouts; Florie Griffiths, Eve Melling, Vicky Taylor, Ellie Smith, Esme Gibbs, Adam Pritchett, Joe Holland, Fraser Edgecumbe and Nathan House have become the latest recipients of the highest award in the scout section the Gold Chief Scouts Award which was presented by the County Commissioner Graham Brant at a ceremony on Wednesday 25th March. This culminated in up to four years of activities such as an expedition over 2 days in Gloucestershire, camping in Cyprus, skills in archery, shooting, climbing, abseiling and many more! As well as power boating in Watchet, caving under the Mendips, Dragon boat racing in St. Annes and Gliding over the Cotswolds.
Several of the leadership team have received awards for their service Ian Butcher being awarded the South Gloucestershire Chairman s award for his volunteering, Lee Baker receiving a Chief scouts commendation for good service and his wife Sue receiving The award for Merit after 20 plus years in scouting.
