98% A’Level Pass Rate at Patchway Community College

We are delighted to share this year’s successes which include an overall pass rate of 98%, and 44% of all grades awarded at A*-B grade or equivalent.

Patchway students’ performance in vocational subjects remains strong, with 74% of all grades awarded at Distinction level or above. We have developed our provision in this area in recent years, and work collaboratively with businesses to provide unique opportunities for Patchway students, developing their knowledge and skills for a 21st century career. This year we have delivered bespoke learning projects with British Aerospace, Airbus, Rowan Dartington and Rolls Royce to name a few and expect to lead regional projects in the near future.

Many students now have the high grades they need to get into the university degree courses of their choice and we are confident that we can sustain and accelerate this progress in the years to come. We would like to congratulate all students on their achievements and recognise our staff for their continued hard work and commitment.

Subject highlights include:

 75% A*-B grades in English Literature.

 100% of students were awarded A*-B grades in Textiles. Three of our A level students this year have been offered places to study Fashion Design at University.

 Students did exceptionally well in BTEC subjects where all applied science students were awarded Distinction* grades, as were all those who studied Sports Studies.

Top achievers (to name a few!):

Jess Wileman who, until leading a recent business breakfast in school, didn’t know that she even wanted to go to university! Jess continues to Plymouth University to study Business and Human Resources and commented “I am absolutely delighted with my results, I couldn’t have asked for any more from my teachers or the school; the community atmosphere provides a great support network and this helped me to succeed in the subjects I am passionate about”.

Penda Bah has an offer to study Psychology at Plymouth University. Throughout her sixth form studies, she has studied hard to achieve these fantastic outcomes whilst working part-time as a health care assistant in Southmead Hospital.

Kieran Mock achieved two Distinction* grades and a B in Financial Studies and will continue to UWE to study Business and Management.

Peter Horton was awarded grade B in three A levels, French, English literature, and Product Design and also plans too accept a place at UWE.

Josh Churchill has a place to study Architecture at University, courtesy of his Distinction* in Applied Science, A in Financial Studies, and C in Maths.

Headteacher Karen Cornick remarked “The achievements of our students have come as a direct result and reward of their continuous efforts, dedication and grit. I am so proud of them, and the staff who have helped them achieve their success. People’s perceptions of Patchway are often based on a historical view of the school, which is now several years out of date. Our facilities are undergoing a range of extensive improvements, our teaching is now consistently of a high quality and we’re confident of our future with the support of The Olympus Academy Trust.”
