A Celebration For Stoke Gifford’s WI’s 60th Birthday
July 20th, 2026President Jo Janes, welcomed members and visitors to our meeting on Wednesday 1st July 2026. This was Stoke Gifford WI 60th Birthday meeting and there was fun and games planned for the evening.
Our evening began, as usual, with a good rendition of Jerusalem and was then followed by the business of the WI. After the business was dealt with our birthday celebrations began.
Our WI Committee consists of 12 members, each of which had provided a photograph of themselves when they were babies. These enlarged photos were stuck on the wall around the meeting hall and everyone was asked to guess which photo belonged to which Committee Member. This guessing game included the members of the Committee, as we had not seen each other’s photograph, so were as much in the dark as the rest of the members. At the end of the evening all was revealed and it proved to be very difficult as we didn’t any of us get them all correct. At the same time that we were trying to guess the committee member, we were also circulating to talk to each other and get to know other members, new and old.
We also had an American Supper with lots of lovely food for all to eat including two fantastic birthday cakes, one being Gluten-free, made by two of our members.
At the end of the evening we all gathered for a photograph. (See below).
We do not hold a meeting in August but a lot of our members will be meeting up later in the month to visit the Air Raid Shelter in Bristol.
We will be meeting again on Wednesday 2nd September 2026 when our Speaker for the evening will be a representative from South Gloucestershire Council Waste Management, which we are sure will be very interesting and we look forward to having lots of questions to ask them.
Visitors will always find a warm welcome at our WI Group which is held on the 1st Wednesday of the month in the Trust Hall, Stoke Gifford so please come along and join us.
