The Stoke Gifford Branch is celebrating a branch record breaking fundraising year!

For the 2014 – 2015 Poppy Appeal, which runs from 1st October 2014 to 30th September 2015, the branch has already raised over £41,000.   This is already several thousand higher than its previous record, and there is still more fundraising to do !!

The money raised by the Poppy Appeal goes to the RBL Welfare Fund to provide help and support for current and ex service personnel and their families. The RBL spends £1.6 million every week on its welfare and support work.

The SGRBL s Chair of Welfare Terry Webber told us “The need is as great as ever ”.

One donation of £800 came from DINGS Crusaders RFC see photo top right.   Mike Sanigar of Dings Crusaders RFC bought and donated to Dings “Poppy ” Shirts which were then bought by players and the remainder auctioned off.   ALL the proceeds were given to the RBL Poppy Appeal.

In the Photo Mike Sanigar is presenting the Cheque to Terry Webber the SGRBL joint Poppy Appeal Organiser. Also in the Photo from Dings is Josh Lloyd, Club Captain and the SG RBL Deputy Standard Bearer Karen Falconer. Mike commented, “We can never do enough for those who served. ”

David Bell, the Branch s Press Officer, said: – “We appreciate the great support that the public gives us in all our activities – and we would like to thank the public and all the businesses and other organisations for their support, they have all contributed to a fantastic Poppy Appeal total. Nationally the appeal spends £1.6 million every week on its welfare work. Our thanks includes the local media who are so good in helping us get our message across and thus ensuring the Poppy Appeal and its work are such a great success, so thank you to Jaci and all involved with your fabulous Matters Magazines for your continued support ”.

The RBL has recently opened a new Pop In Centre in 62 Union Street, Bristol, where people can call in for advice and information on the charity s support and community services.

If you or someone you know needs help from the Royal British Legion please contact the RBL national helpline – 0808 802 8080.
