Another Fabulous Bradley Stoke Festival!

view-of-field-webThe sun shone again for the 2015 Bradley Stoke Festival and what a fun-filled three days it has been. Bradley Stoke Matters has been out and about across the three days and we have uploaded literally hundreds of photos to our Facebook page and albums –

After a gloomy start to Friday, the rain held off and the sun came out and there were plenty of pre-schoolers to enjoy the antics and entertainment of Panic Circus. Friends of Jubilee Green also provided entertainment in the form of a treasure hunt, which they have estimated over 100 children participated in. There were bouncy castles, face painting and the lovely ladies from the WI were on hand with refreshments and cakes.

On Saturday, the main festival day was extremely well attended with the field being quite crowded by mid-afternoon with lots of families relaxing on picnic blankets and enjoying the music and entertainment.

The McDonalds sponsored BSYFC football event on the top field had 14 schools participating this year and football celebrities Sir Geoff Hurst MBE and Gary Mabbutt were also present to encourage the youngsters. Congratulations to all the schools who participated (and to all the parents for supporting!).  Again we have photos of all the prize givings – there were some big trophies! – on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/BSMatters
10-k-start-webSunday morning shone bright and clear for the 10th annual Bradley Stoke 10k organised  by Sole Sisters North Bristol Running Club.  The first runners were back in just 37 minute, whilst others took a bit longer, but all runners were supported and cheered on by the Sole Sisters volunteers and marshals.  This really is a friendly fun event and always a great atmosphere.  The runners were treated to an energetic warm up by Terry the Tornado done in great spirit.   We will print photos of all the winners in our next edition, but full results are available  here  http://bit.ly/1Jwy2V5.  There are photos on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/BSMatters  of the start and finish of the race – which you are welcome to share or tag yourself in.

Also taking place Sunday morning at Baileys Court Activity Centre was a joint “Church in the Park ” outdoor service from the Bradley Stoke Churches from 10.30am.

bed-race-winners-webFrom the 10k run, we visited the Skate Park competition behind the Leisure Centre which was just getting going when we arrived, and then on to Baileys Court for the third annual Bed Race.  This is a fun event with competitors having to push a bed of their making around the course undertaking challenges on the way.  There were just 5 teams on the day this year – two adult teams namely reigning champions Hilton Bristol and the Active Leisure team who were looking to take the title from Hilton this year.  The 3 youth teams were representing the Scouts, the Explorer Scouts and the Youth Group from Christ the King.  It wasn’t a smooth ride, with one team losing a wheel and the challenges weren’t all easily overcome, but the Hilton team prevailed to become champions for the third team running.  Huge Congratulations to them.  Who is going to challenge them next year!?  There are lots of photos of the bed race again on our Facebook page    https://www.facebook.com/BSMatters

The final event of the festival is the Cricket match between the Bradley Stoke Cricket Club and the Mayors 11 which commenced at 2pm and  finishing with a cricket tea and evening entertainment in the clubhouse, and roll up demonstrations from the Bradley Stoke Bowls Club.

Thanks to all the hard work from the Bradley Stoke Town Council for organising the event, and all the volunteers from so many local groups who make the festival such fun for everyone.  Bradley Stoke Radio also added to the festival air by being on hand at the Picnic in the Park, the main event on Saturday and also the Bed Race and Cricket match.
