Appeal following the murder of the Reverend John Suddards, Thornbury

Police are appealing for help from members of the community as the investigation into the murder of the Reverend John Suddards continues.   Officers are especially keen to hear from anyone who saw a man sitting on the pavement outside St Mary’s Church, Thornbury on Monday evening (13th February 2012).

This man was of average build and was wearing dark clothing. Officers believe he was close to the church some time between 6pm and 8pm. The weather at the time was fine and dry although it was cold and dark.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp said: “We think this man may be able to help us. If you were passing by please get in touch.   Were you out walking your dog that night or were you returning home from work? Did you notice anybody sitting on the pavement around this time?   Please take a few seconds to think back to what you were doing on Monday night. Even if you think what you saw is insignificant it could help us with our investigation.”

Reverend Suddards was found dead in his home on the morning of Tuesday 14th February 2012. He died from multiple stab wounds.

A murder investigation has been launched and an incident room has been set up. Officers are waiting for your call and will treat it in confidence.
