Aretians Ladies 24-50 Cheddar Valley

IMG_5325-web FullSizeRender-webThe Aretians Ladies Rugby Team played their first match on Sunday.   A fantastic crowd of 150+ turned up to support the girls and cheer them on.

The game started with Aretians looking very nervous and poor handling resulted in Cheddar pressure putting Aretians to the sword. Cheddar scored easily out wide for the 1st half.

Going into the 2nd half with Aretians gaining confidence all the time, the power from forward drives of props Annette Hayward and Rachel Lee got Cheddar on the back foot allowing captain Courtney Tucker and Emily Lewis to get their distribution going. The power game of Aretians resulting in strong surges forward from Amy Meachin and Kayley Bidder.

Aretians won the second half with 4 tries to Cheddar’s 2.  Three from powerful full back Kayley Bidder and one from loosehead prop Rachel Lee. Amy Meachin kicked 2 conversions.

Coach Steve Hayward said: “I’m incredibly proud of all the girls to come back from a shaky start and learn from their mistakes quickly to turn the game upside down to win the 2nd half was very impressive. If we start our next game how we finished this one we will do very well. Don’t forget that 90% of this team had never played a competitive game of rugby before today!”

Thanks to Steve Hayward for the report.
