Baileys Court Primary Weekly Science Blog
July 3rd, 2015
Hello reader!
30th June 2015 Bailey’s Court Primary School year 5 went to UWE.
When we got there we split up into 3 groups then we went to the BRL (Bristol Robotics Lab). In the BRL we saw a dancing /singing robot, then we saw what a 3D printer can make and what they look like.
After, we got to control some small robots for 5 minutes and then we saw some of UWEs MFCs (Microbial Fuel Cell’s). After that we went on a campus tour of the site. We were told that there was a food shop, a gym and lots more. Some of us said it was like a village with the amount of students who lived there. Then it was time to see who had won the prizes; it was very close.
In the afternoon we did some hands on activities, the first was psychology. We looked at lots of illusions and things that confused our minds. Next we saw how good our short term memory was by seeing how many numbers we could remember.

One of the last things we did was seeing an example of how a power station works. Then we took a pulse reading before an exercise. The first exercise was step-ups, after we did the first exercise we took a pulse reading and then went to do the second exercise; it was cycling. We started off by cycling to see whether we could power an old fashioned light bulb then a laptop and then an ordinary light bulb and a kettle (but nobody got onto that!). Then we tried to light six or seven old fashioned light bulbs (most people did that).
We had a great day but we are sad that the project is nearly over.
