Biggest 10k Run A Success
June 9th, 2013
It was perfect weather for this morning’s annual 10k run, organised by Sole Sisters. The race, usually limited to 500 runners, was already full earlier in May so the Club applied for an extra 100 places. These places were soon snapped up as well so it was the biggest field yet that set off at 9.30am on a bright sunny morning with a fairly cool wind.
Just 34 minutes later the first runner was home! Andrew Cooke running from Bristol & West AC completed the course in 34 minutes and 31 seconds, nearly 2 minutes faster than second placed runner Peter Morton who finished in another impressive time of 36 minutes 13 seconds. Martin Bartlett completed the men’s top three a few seconds later, completing in 36 minutes and 32 seconds.
The first lady home was Hayley Bennett, also from Bristol & West AC, in a time of 44 minutes, 51 seconds – a great birthday achievement – Happy Birthday Hayley we hope you celebrated this evening! Hayley was closely followed by second placed female Jane Coleman in 44 minutes, 58 seconds and third place was Rosina Rowland in a time of 45 minutes 33 seconds.
The fastest Bradley Stoke resident was third placed male runner Martin Bartlett and the oldest Bradley Stoke runner was 76 year old Ted Wiffill who has run the race every year to date and finished in a cracking time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 29 seconds – well done to Ted.
A special well done also to my friend Laura Woodward who completed the run in 54 minutes – 5 minutes faster than the last time she ran the race.
It was brilliant to be stood on the finish line and watch all the runners come home to cheering and applause from family members and the crowds generally, most of whom also waited to cheer and clap the last runner home, before the prizes were handed out to the race winners.
A huge well done to Sole Sisters running club and their helpers – 72 marshals on the course this year – for organising such a well run and successful event – their biggest yet!
