Bowlers Boat to Bohemia

bowls1On Saturday 23rd May a team of bowlers from the Bradley Stoke Bowls Club played on an Island in the middle of the Thames. This island variously known as Fry’s Island or De Montfort Island is a natural island located in the middle of the Thames where it flows near the centre of Reading. The only access to the island is by boat. It is home of two boatyards, a private bungalow and the Island Bohemian Bowls Club (which is perhaps the only bowling club in the world that runs its own ferry service). The game was close fought on six rinks, each club winning three. After a delicious meal provided by the Bohemian Club, the homeward   journey   was by ferry and coach . No-one reported seasick.

The Club is currently in happy mood because the men s team progressed through the first round of the National Top Club competition and the ladies the County Competition Inter Club.
