BOWLS CLUB TO SUPPORT THE CHARITY- BRACE

braceAt a recent Club meeting, Captain George Eland announced that his charity for this year will be BRACE. He introduced a speaker, Susan Marshfield who outlined its aims and methods. (See photo) In a brief and lucid talk, Susan explained how the Charity had grown from a small group of enthusiasts, who in 1987 started the Bristol Research into Alzheimers and Care for the Elderly (BRACE), and which has nowbecome a major player into this vital health issue.

BRACE is a registered charity that funds research into Alzheimer s disease and other forms of dementia. Its role is to help medical science understand the causes of dementia, to find ways of diagnosing it earlier and more accurately, and to develop more effective treatments. Ultimately, it wants to help science beat dementia.Brace raises funds through voluntary donations, sponsorship, legacies and fundraising events and spends that money by supporting research at universities in the West of England and South Wales. All the research it supports has been peer reviewed and assessed by a committee that includes senior scientists.

The Club s main fundraising event will be a fun match on the 16th August played out in fancy dress. Spectators are welcome to have a chance to support this worthy cause, and to enjoy the fun and refreshments.
