Bradley Stoke Green Gym joins the Big Spring Clean

The 2013 Big Spring Clean kicked off to a flying start when the Bradley Stoke ‘Green Gym did a clean up in and around Savages Wood. To add some extra fun there is always a competition amongst the members to see who can bag the oddest item. This years litter was unremarkable with no severed heads or shopping trolleys but Andy did scoop a prize for most valuable find, a (Honda) tax disc with over two months to run! (If you think this might be yours, it s now at Filton Police Station.)

Sara said “Compared to previous years there was very little litter but this may be because there is a couple who litter pick around the reserve most days. I don t know their names but I d like to tell them although they are unnamed, they are not unappreciated! ”

Green Gym is an off shoot of the Three Brooks Nature Conservation Group and meet on a Thursday 10am – 1pm to do conservation work and is open to everyone. The programme aims to provide people with a way to enhance their fitness and health, both physical and mental, while taking action to improve the outdoor environment. Dr William Bird, an Oxford GP, originally developed the concept and the first pilot was held in 1997. By 2006 there were 55 projects across the UK with an estimated 6,000 people taking part.   BS GG is self supporting as they receive no funding from South Glos Council.

The next Three Brooks Walks are:
Dawn Chorus on 5th May, 6.00am – 8.30am
Wildlife Walk on Fathers Day 16th June, from 10am to 1pm.
For both walks meet outside the Leisure Centre a few minutes before the start time.
