BS Vets win 3-1 Against Lockleaze

The BS Vets had a game on the Sunday in the Gloucestershire Vets League picking up a 3-1 win against Lockeaze.

On a frankly wet and miserable day the mighty orange set about lighting up the weekend. Indeed in the first minute a burst from Adam ‘Speedy Gonzales Sykes saw him deliver a low cross that fell nicely for Carlos the Jackal. The gaffer was getting ready to wager his house on an early goal when the ace striker inexplicably drove straight at the keeper. No matter, Carlos would have his moment late on.

Thereafter the game settled into a positive pattern for the home side. Moving the ball well, messrs Poulsom, Chappell, Welsh and Godfrey were forming neat triangles and dominating possession. Lockleaze were conceding the ball cheaply and a lovely cross from Rich Williams saw Welshy go close with a header. Shortly after Chris ‘the beast Godden tried his luck but saw his effort fly over. Eventually Lockleaze found a foothold in the game and a powerful drive was dealt with effortlessly by new stopper  Brendon Wilson, who was confidence incarnate.

A competitive half ended 0-0 with all to play for and the orange set about winning the game as the rain lifted. Good work by Thwaitesy saw Adam gather with the keeper stranded and in a moment of Best-like calm he lobbed in for the opener. The back four, featuring a magisterial  Martin Lee, were looking solid and saw off some dangerous looking corners before MOM  Chris Howell  released Carlos who prodded home neatly.

Lockleaze, to their credit, battled on and carved out an opportunity down the right. The ball broke kindly and they were back in it. Things were a bit nervy until BS Vets countered and Carlos produced the concluding act of the game with a rasping, rising drive worthy to win any game.

So the orange march on to a stern test vs early pace-setters Winterbourne next game.
