BSCS Students Finalists in 2015 Prom Dress Design Competition
March 19th, 2015Over 70 pupils in years 10 to 13 from local schools submitted prom outfit designs for the sewing competition launched in September last year. Eight designs were selected by a panel of judges from John Lewis Cribbs Causeway.
Finalists Chloe Lorenzi, Simran Kaur and Ashleigh Porton from Bradley Stoke Community School who study their design course at Patchway Community School, Zoe Perry and Molly Marshall from Chipping Sodbury School, Izzy Fraser and Marcella Lopresti from St Bedes and Jessi Viljeon from St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School were invited in to the store during February half term to make up their designs with help and advice from experts in the haberdashery department. All fabric and accessories were supplied by John Lewis free of charge.
Chloe Lorenzi one of the finalists from BSCS, told us “I entered the first sewing competition three years ago organised by John Lewis and enjoyed the experience so much I wanted to get involved again with this competition. I am really happy with my dress. It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills and work with John Lewis.”
This is the second year of this competition, after Chloe Marsh from Bradley Stoke Community School was crowned the winner last year.
The 2015 finalists modelled completed outfits at Old Down Manor last weekend after having their hair styled by Alan Bendrey & Co and their make up applied by bare minerals at John Lewis.
Head of Branch Lucy Ramseyer said: With the Great British Sewing Bee so prevalent at the moment this is an excellent opportunity for local students to learn fantastic new skills. I have been very impressed with the talent demonstrated and the quality of the students designs and final outfits. It is a privilege for John Lewis to be able to offer this opportunity for students who wish to pursue a career in design or textiles.
