BSTFC Reserves earn a draw in a hard fought game against Soundwell Victoria

The Reserves’ game was the only one of all the BSTFC Teams to escape postponement this weekend and so had a good crowd of support from the club.  Hoping to kick on from their great 7-1 result the previous week, the first 20 minutes of the matched look promising for the Reserves.

It was the Reserves who were creating the chances with good play down both wings and the threat of  Matt Smith  and  Chris Hughes  through the middle. Eventually the Ressies did break the deadlock and it was all down to the hard work of  Carl O’Connell. Closing down the keeper and forcing an error, O’Connell calmly chipped the ball over the Soundwell keeper from 25 yards out.

This should have been a platform for the Reserves to launch themselves from but unfortunately they allowed Soundwell back into the game. A corner fell to the Soundwell player on the edge of the 18 yard area. He was allowed to take a touch and shot which hit the inside of the post but fell to a fellow Soundwell player who had an easy tap in.

After the half time break it was Soundwell who had the majority of the possession but the Bradley Stoke side having the better chances. The Reserves lost winger  Zobir Homoyoun  to injury which saw the introduction of  Sam Chillcott.  The Reserves were now boasting a forward front line of 3 players whose combined age work out at triple figures!

The Reserves continued to be a danger to the Soundwell goal with  Matt Smith  having a goal disallowed for offside and players  Adam Sykes, O’Connell, Chillcott coming close and may have had the chance to do better.

The game finished 1-1, with the home side travelling to Bishopsworth next week for what is sure to be a tough test.
