Car Cleaning for cash!
May 6th, 2011Youngsters often get a bad press these days, but the 60 students of the Northavon School of Drama, who perform as the Northavon Youth Theatre Company, are out to prove they are the exception to the rule!
With the applause for their recent production of the Madness Musical ~ OUR HOUSE ~ still ringing in their ears, the students are putting away their trilbies and offering to wash your car on Sunday 5 June, at Thornbury Fire Station on Gloucester Road, between 10.00am and 2.00pm.
The productions cost around £16,000.00 to put on and even if every seat at the Armstrong Hall was sold, that wouldn’t equate financially, so to balance the books, a number of fundraising challenges have been met. After working hard with a stall at Thornbury Christmas Lights Switch-On, the youngsters decided to form their own band, rehearsed diligently for several months and put on a special Gig entitled A Night of Classics, featuring the music of Madness and other SKA music, which was hailed as a great success. 24 of them took part in hours of bag packing at Morrison’s in Cribbs Causeway and all this hard work raised a total of £1,300.00! In between all this, 4 teams also raised nearly £600.00 for the chosen charities by swimming in Thornbury Rotary Club Swimarathon.
Although the show is over, it’s never too soon to start raising funds for the next one, so this latest venture deserves your support and who wouldn’t like a nice clean car for the Summer! So if you are in and around Thornbury on 5th June do take your car along for a wash!
