Charity Football Match in memory of George (Georgina) WestJune 28th, 2016
This Saturday 2nd July the family and friends of George (Georgina) West have organised a memorial football match – Ladies v Men – to take place on the top pitch at the Jubilee Centre. Kick off is 1pm.
George lived in Merryweather with her mum and tragically lost her fight against a very rare form of Cancer on 1st of July last year, aged 27. She played for Bristol City Ladies and loved football from a very young age (she had a big brother and played with him and his mates!), so it was felt to be very fitting to celebrate her life on the anniversary with a ladies versus men football match! There will be a raffle on the day raising money for the Charity Teens Unit (this is their web site http://teensunitefightingcancer.org/ ) and local companies have been very generous with their donation of raffle prizes. Each player is also donating £10 to play and the family hope to raise around £400 for the charity.
At the end of the summer last year, with the help of Knightstone Housing, a memorial bench was installed in Merryweather Close just by the walk way into the Jubilee fields.
There will be a Cup and a Shield commemorating the day and the plan is to make this an annual event, hopefully growing to have more teams next year and may be even a mini tournament.
The match is being held at the top pitch at the Jubilee Centre at 1pm, followed by a free BBQ (donation pot) at her mum’s house in Merryweather just round the corner from the Jubilee Centre. Support from the local community would be very much welcomed.
Thanks goes to Bradley Stoke Town Council who brought forward their maintenance enabling the pitch to be used on 2nd July.Tags: Bradley Stoke, charity, football, Jubilee Back to news
