Children from Belarus meet Lord Mayor Alistair Watson

Whole CCLL group with the Lord Mayor16 children aged 10-11 from Belarus, are enjoying a month’s respite holiday with local host families courtesy of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline (Bristol Link).

On the 30th July, they met with Lord Mayor Alistair Watson at the Mansion House. In the 18 years of hosting, this was a new event for the Link, thanks to host Carole Duckett.

Carol baked 16 Gingerbread Men, including one for the Lord Mayor, each with their individual names iced on them!  The Lord Mayor kindly presented these unique biscuits to each of his young guests at their tables. This was followed by a tour of the Mansion House and its Museum.   With the help of their interpreter- leaders, they were also shown a short film on the History of Bristol.

Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline said, ‘We are so grateful for the hospitality given by the City Council and sincerely hope that it will not be the last .
