Creative competition for children to design their own Poppy

poppy-webSpecsavers in the Willow Brook Centre  is hosting the competition and  asking primary school children to put their artistic skills to the test and design their own Royal British Legion poppy.

Children have just one week from today until next Tuesday 15 October to enter their design which will be judged by the Mayor of Thornbury, Councillor Pam Shipp. A winner will be picked from each age category; four to seven years and eight to eleven years. As well as a £15 gift voucher and a Specsavers goody bag, each of the winning designs will be made into a T-shirt, kindly printed by The Anchor Inn.

Both prizes will be presented in store on Saturday 26 October. All the money raised from the competition will go to the Thornbury branch of the Royal British Legion.

Edward Stanleigh, store director at Specsavers in both Bradley Stoke and Thornbury, tells us: ‘With Remembrance Day fast approaching, we were keen to do something which will engage our local community and support our heroes. Through involving local schools and children, we are able to raise awareness of the Royal British Legion and encourage others to raise money or donate to the charity.
