Downing Street Recognition for Meadowbrook Bell Ringers
November 12th, 2012The Meadowbrook Bell Ringers are delighted to have received a letter from 10 Downing
Street!
A group of Year 4 children from Meadowbrook Primary School meet every
Thursday lunchtime to practice ringing handbells. Emma M, Emma H,
Skyy, Katie and Hollie practised “happy birthday” on the handbells
and sent a recording on DVD to David Cameron for his birthday in October.
The Bell Ringers were thrilled to receive a very personal response from
Mr Cameron. In his letter, the Prime Minister thanks the Meadowbrook
Primary School’s Bell Ringing club for their kind thoughts on his recent
birthday. He mentions each child by name and comments on their talent and
enthusiasm. He goes on to say
"Bell ringing has an important part in the cultural history of our country; indeed the ringing of bells across the United Kingdom was chosen as a signal of the countdown to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, and I am glad to see that we are encouraging a new generation of bell ringers to carry on this tradition." He concludes by sending his best wishes for the continued success of the Meadowbrook Bell Ringing Club.
The Meadowbrook Bell Ringers are now turning their attention to practising Christmas carols in preparation for the Carol Service at the Willowbrook Centre in December.
