Ed goes the extra mile for children’s cancer charityApril 4th, 2018
Ed Stanleigh, store director at Specsavers in Bradley Stoke, will be undertaking the 26.2 mile route of the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April. Along with Specsavers in Cribbs Causeway and Filton, the store has chosen CLIC Sargent as its nominated charity for 2018. The teams from all three stores will be taking part in a number of challenges and holding events throughout the year to raise as much as possible for the charity.
‘As soon as we decided to support CLIC Sargent, I saw it as an opportunity to put myself forward for the London Marathon,’ says Ed. ‘The charity offers tremendous support to youngsters who have been diagnosed with cancer, during what can be a frightening and challenging time, as well as offering support to their families.
‘Having two young children myself, I cannot imagine the devastation such news would bring or how people cope as a family. Knowing that CLIC Sargent exists to offer support is extremely encouraging and they rely on voluntary donations entirely, so any contribution would be greatly appreciated. I’ve ran half marathons before but never a full one so I am looking forward to the challenge. Training is going well so far and I’m increasing the mileage as the date gets closer.’
Ed has raised £1,300 so far and his fundraising target is £2,000. He would love your support! To make a donation, visit his Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/edstanleigh or pop in Specsavers in Bradley Stoke.
CLIC Sargent http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/ provides practical, financial and emotional support for children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. The charity believes that children with cancer have the right to the best possible treatment, care and support throughout their cancer journey and beyond.
Every donation makes a difference. £4 could pay for a CLIC Sargent storybook that explains childhood cancer to children in simple, easy to understand language. £15 could pay for a copy of CLIC Sargent’s DVD to help bereaved families understand and cope with their grief and a generous £46 could pay for a CLIC Sargent Social Worker to be there soon after diagnosis, giving a family one-to-one support.
