Erin Wins Top Prize for her Class

erin-tandy-and-friendsIt was a hot summer afternoon but that didn t stop Erin and her two class mates Lola and Jessie getting under their duvets at Meadowbrook Primary School!   As winner of the Slumberdown ‘Draw Your School Competition earlier this month Erin Tandy, from Butterflies class in year 1, won bedding as well as a duvet and pillow for the other 28 pupils in her class and also for Mr Petrucco, her teacher! We were pleased to go down and see Erin and the class presented with their prize.

It all started over the Easter holidays when Erin was given the chance to draw her school in Slumberdown s competition given out to pupils by teachers at Meadowbrook Primary. Regional winners receive their prizes and then go on for a chance to become the overall winner. Erin s drawing, along with the other three regional finalists were then put to a public vote via facebook and Erin was announced as the winner in July.   She will now have her design re-imaged and featured in the 3D land of Slumberland and used in a series of adverts and animations!

Erin told me “I am quite good at drawing and so I thought I could draw a picture of the school ok ”. She went on to describe to me the colours used “I did the windows blue to show they are see through and I drew the bricks in peach to match the orange peachy walls of Meadowbrook. I used felt tips and it didn t take very long really in the holidays ”.

Asked how she felt on being a winner, Erin said “my Mum told me that I d won the competition and I was so excited ”. She admitted to gaining a few more school friends as a result and that they all told her they “really liked the picture ”. It was apparent that all students were very pleased with their new bedding although I m not sure how some carried duvet, pillow and book bags home!

erin-tandy-and-teacherMr Petrucco said he and the rest of the school were very proud of Erin and that it was great “to have recognition in an extra curriculum activity that the children had chosen to and enjoyed taking part in ”. He thought the afternoons activity was “great fun and something different ” as they all appeared to enjoy the photo shoot and watching Erin wrapping herself in 4.5 togs!

Look out for Erin s picture in the virtual land of Slumbertown.   Congratulations Erin. You should be very pleased with your achievement!Erin-Tandy
