Football Festival Review – Report by Martin Lee

On Saturday June 8th 2024 the 18th Bradley Stoke Youth FC Football Festival took place and this year we had a good mixture of age groups at the event.  In the morning we had the Reception children, Year 2 children and U8 girls playing their fun based matches.

The Reception children had a penalty shootout with the Minion in goals. I think the Minion is improving as it saved a few this year! The U8 Girls played their matches on the giant inflatable pitch which was great fun.

Then in the afternoon we had the Year 1 children, Year 3 children, U10 Girls and U12 Girls playing their matches.

The number of children playing at the event was 146. They all received a medal and certificate with the younger children also receiving a goody bag.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bradley Stoke did a fast and efficient job of handing out the medals and cups to the excited children. We also had the pleasure of having Matt Wheaton from the Luke Wheaton Legacy Trust to present the annual Luke Wheaton Memorial Cup to the Year 1 children for all of their effort on the day.

This year was our 20th anniversary of our partnership with McDonalds and to celebrate this special milestone event they supplied 5 massive inflatables for all the community to enjoy free of charge. We had the Inflatable Pitch, the Knee Slider, Dribble Tunnel, Power Save, and Speed of Shot. So on two of these inflatables lots of people had the pleasure of trying to save a football coming at them at up to 80mph or trying to shoot a ball into the goal at over 50mph. The club would like to thank McDonalds for their ongoing support over the 20 years and hopefully this will continue into the future.

The club would like to thank Bradley Stoke Town Council for their ongoing support with this being our 18th year of working together to put this event on. The football pitches looked so good this year and the medals supplied by the Town Council were fantastic.

The club would also like to thank the Luke Wheaton Legacy Trust for their ongoing support for this event and other funding they provide to the community.

The weather was good and it was great to have the Bradley Stoke Community Festival back alongside us this year with all their attractions and entertainment program…….. long may this continue.
