Happy 20th Birthday Wheatfield Primary!

On Saturday 16th March, Wheatfield Primary School opened its doors to past and present pupils, families, governors and members of staff for an open day to celebrate the school’s 20th Anniversary.

Over 200 people attended the event, taking the opportunity to explore the school and catch up with old friends and colleagues.

There were representatives from all stages of Wheatfield life with pupils from the early days right through to ones that left last year, returning to look around.

On display in the hall were pictures from throughout the school’s history, and videos from key events were played in classrooms.  Past and present headteachers Christine Dursley, Lois Hayden and Phil Winterburn cut a cake and said a few words to mark the occasion.

Judging by some of the feedback received (see below) the celebration was a great success!

The day was organised by a team of people including teaching assistants Hazel Boyes – who started work at the school in 1999 – and Diane Webb who is the only current member of staff to have been at the school when it opened in 1998.  It forms part of a series of events throughout the school year to mark the 20th Anniversary.  The culmination of these events will be ‘Wheatfest’ on Saturday 13th July 2019 which will be a day of activities, rides and performances to celebrate this important time for the school – more information to follow soon!

It was great to catch up with everyone and so lovely to see some past pupils and hear some of what they’ve been up to.  –Denise Almond (Kemp) (ex-teacher)

Wonderful trip down memory lane! Happy 20th Wheatfield! Thank you for a lovely afternoon x  Jeanette Walker       (ex-pupil)

Thank you so much for inviting me to the 20th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday. I really appreciated all the effort put into the afternoon, just putting up all those photos must have been a MAMMOTH task let alone everything else! The school looked fantastic – in many ways the same but also very different! It was wonderful to meet up with ‘old’ colleagues again and hear how well all the ex-pupils were doing. Wishing you all the best for the next 20 years!  Barbara Moore  (Office Manager opening – 2006)

Fantastic afternoon! Was lovely to walk back through the doors and remember the few wonderful years I had at Wheatfield. It was so lovely to see my ‘old’ teachers there too. Thank you.      Kirstie Fielding (ex-pupil)
