Jacob Davis : Bambino KartingApril 14th, 2019
Jacob is a year 3 pupil at Wheatfield Primary School and he competes in Bambino Karting for ages 6-8 year olds.
In 2018 Jacob had very good success, competing at club level at both Camberley and Rissington Kart Club. Jacob won the Rissington Championship and was Vice Champion at Camberley. Things seems to click half way through the 2018 season, he had 4 podiums out of 5 meetings at Camberley, winning 3 of them…. this form helped him finish 2nd overall in the Championship!
Over the winter period Jacob has put in a lot of practice in preparation for the new season, this is where he’ll be competing in the 2019 Motorsport UK Bambino Championship. Jacob will spend his weekends be competing against other drivers from all over the UK. He has been selected for the championship after he has shown exceptional ability in kart racing at club level in the UK.
The Motorsport UK Bambino Championship is run by Zip kart who are based at Silverstone. Former Karting Champions include: Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Jason Plato and Bristol-born Lando Norris who saw his F1 debut last month. The first race is at PFI International circuit on the 27th & 28th April.
Additional preparation for the MSA National Championship was also provided earlier in the year, a round called the Winter Cup, held at Bayford Meadow kart Track in Sittingbourne, Kent. This was a new track to us, a track where a lot of experienced drivers race. Saturday was the Club Championship, we used this as a test day for the Sunday ‘Race Day,’ the day actually turned out to be Jacobs best yet, picking up the track layout very quickly and managing to finish 2nd place overall out of 14 drivers! Sunday Raceday was just as positive, that was until he had kart failure in the Pre-final from being hit from behind, unfortunately a DNF means he had to start at the back in the final. Jacob drove a great race climbing all the way to 6th place, exceeding expectations and overtaking lots of experienced drivers in the process.
The 2019 club season has also just commenced, Jacob recently finishing 2nd place at the first round at Shenington Kart Track, in quite awful conditions, and the first round at Camberley comin gup as we went to print. Looking forward, Jacob hopes to have a strong year in both National and Club events, he will also be making the move up to cadets towards the end of the year, this is where he’ll be competing against children up to 12 years old and the speed of the karts increase from 40mph to around 60mph!
Good luck Jacob – how exciting – we look forward to following your progress this season!
