Kidical Mass Bristol Bike Ride 2026
August 26th, 2026This September, families from across Bristol will come together and cycle through Central Bristol for a fun event with a serious message! September 19th 2026 will see the third Bristol Kidical Mass: A mass family friendly bike ride to call for safer streets for the children of Bristol to cycle on.
In 1971, 80% of children were allowed to make their own way to school, compared to around 9% today. It is not a co-incidence that, since 1971, the number of vehicles on British roads has increased from 15.3 million to 42.3 million. Over the last 50 years, children have lost their independence as vehicles have taken over space in our cities and made it unsafe for children to cycle or walk to places on their own. We are at a unique moment where this could all change! Kidical Mass is calling for decision makers to give children their freedom and independence back. By providing safe-car free routes across Bristol, children and families could visit friends, get to school, the park, or wherever else they need to go without having to share the road with large and fast-moving vehicles.
The last two Kidical Masses have been a huge success; hundreds of children and families have ridden together around the centre, dinging their bells and chatting with their friends to call for space for children in our city. This year, we are hoping to make the event bigger and more fun than ever! There are feeder rides from all around the city to help families make their way to the starting point at Queen Square safely. From there, the well-marshalled bike parade will snake around the city centre, leaving at 11am, accompanied by music and lots of bell ringing before returning again to Queen Square.
