Leadership Changes at Local Secondary SchoolsJanuary 12th, 2017
As announced in December, The Olympus Academy Trust (OAT) and Castle School Education Trust (CSET) have submitted a joint proposal to the Department for Education for the sponsorship of Winterbourne International Academy, currently part of The Ridings Federation of Academies (TRFA). In the meantime, OAT and CSET are providing interim leadership support at Winterbourne.
As part of this interim arrangement, Peter Smart, Headteacher of The Castle School, Thornbury, will be seconded to the post of Interim Principal at Winterbourne International Academy, effective 16th January 2017 to 31st August 2017. In his absence, William Roberts, Chief Executive of CSET, will serve as Interim Headteacher at The Castle School.
These arrangements have been discussed and agreed by CSET, OAT and TRFA, and will ensure that strong leadership is in place to support staff and students in all of our schools.
Claire Emery, Member and Chair of Trustees of TRFA said: “The board is delighted to be working in partnership with two neighbouring multi-academy trusts (MATs) and to welcome Peter as the Interim WIA Principal. Peter brings many years’ experience of strong leadership in a local academy of a similar size and community and is committed to empowering our students and staff to excel. Operationally, Peter will be line managed and held to account by Dave Baker, CEO of OAT, who will continue to provide federation leadership on a part-time basis for the remainder of this academic year as Interim CEO and Accounting Officer. We will follow up with an opportunity for parents to meet Peter as soon as possible.”
Peter Smart said: “I am really looking forward to using my experience and skills of headship to lead Winterbourne International Academy. Over the coming weeks I will be very active in getting to know all members of the school community and ensuring that we focus on the students achieving their very best.”
William Roberts said: “Having previously served as Headteacher of Downend School and Executive Headteacher of Mangotsfield School, these arrangements give me an excellent opportunity to strengthen my relationship with staff, students and parents at The Castle School, which is the largest school in CSET, and the founding school in the Trust”.
Dave Baker said: “This is a great opportunity for our schools and Trusts in the same locality to share expertise and capacity in order to provide the best possible education and support for all the students in secondary education in the area. We are excited about the future for all our schools and their communities.”Back to news
