Little Stoke Scouts 60th Anniversary Reunion
November 12th, 2012
On Saturday 10th November some 90 former Leaders, Committee Members and Fund Raisers, along with present members, met up at the Community Hall in Little Stoke. Some had travelled from as far away as South Wales and Coventry to join in the celebration.
A great time was had swapping memories and looking at old photographs. Some had been Cubs and Scouts back in the 1950s and 60s. As one Former Lady Cub Leader remarked, You were a little boy the last time I saw you!
County Commissioner Dan Wood, a former Beaver, Cub and Scout in the Group popped in to wish the Group well. The 60th Anniversary badges were available for purchase along with copies of a History of the Scout Group containing memories from 17 former and present members. After a very good buffet prepared by Sally Alford and supported by Coralie Thompson and Pat Hutton, the four ladies shown above – Laura Toller, Sheila Pope, Molly Scull and Barbara Bartlett – cut the Anniversary cake which ad been prepared by Rosemary Davis.
The Scouts 60th Anniversary year will be rounded off with a Carol Service at Christ the King Church on 20th December and the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are already practising their parts.
Some Leadership retirements at the end of July has meant that very sadly the Group have had to close their Thursday Beaver Colony and the children have been transferred to the Tuesday Colony. This has gone well and everyone has settled in well.
The Group is always looking for men and women to help provide quality Scouting for the young people in our area. Adults get a lot out of Scouting as well as the youngsters. It really is wonderful to see the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts develop, try new things and have fun, and you could be part of the Big Adventure as well and have fun with them.
If you think that you can help, please talk to Group Scout Leader, Michael Edwards-Jones on 01454 618789.
