Local students shadow MP for International Women’s Day

Yesterday, Jack Lopresti MP was shadowed by five female students from Filton and Bradley Stoke as they joined others from across the UK in celebrating International Women s Day in Westminster.

Schools and Colleges with sixth forms in Filton and Bradley Stoke were each invited to nominate a female student to be put into a ballot.       Jack secured places for 5 students to join him for the International Women s Day events; they were

  • Nhair Padron, Abbeywood Community School
  • Chelsea Miller, Bristol Technology and Engineering Academy
  • Sophie Maxted, Bradley Stoke Community School
  • Priya Kaur, Downend School
  • Summan Mazhar, The Ridings Federation Sixth Form

The students attended a number of events to mark the day, including a tour of Parliament to learn about its history and functions, a visit to Number 10 Downing Street and a chance to listen to a House of Commons Debate.

The day ended with an afternoon tea reception where all the students and their MPs from across the UK came together to be welcomed by The Speaker of the House of Commons, The Rt. Hon. John Bercow MP.
