New look, New name!
April 1st, 2023
Established in 1981, the club has been a pillar to the local community, holding regular, weekly race meetings on Wednesday evenings from April through to September as well as monthly meetings through the winter. There are opportunities for all, from training and open gate practise sessions to specialist coaching and right at the heart, racing!
We are a welcoming, family orientated club and always look forward to new members joining, from those on their first pedal bike to those who ought to know better!
We have a new look for the 2023 season, with huge thanks to one of our riders, Adrian Ridley, who came up with the vision for our new race wear designs. The designs are inspired by Patchway’s roots in the aviation industry. Visual cues are taken from some of the fastest, most ground-breaking aeroplanes in the world, which were developed right on our doorstep. The devil is in the details though, you’ll need some beady eyes to spot the quirky little touches Adrian has put in!
To launch our new designs, the Bristol Aerospace Museum kindly offered to open its doors exclusively for our members on 23rd February. There, they were presented with their new kits by the club committee and one of our sponsors Crucial BMX.
Both young and old(er!) enjoyed looking around the concord and finding out about the history and links to the area. The team was photographed by our resident photographer Mick Wells (Micks pix BMX Photogrpaphy), who was able to capture the team’s portraits alongside the concord, which will be displayed in the club cabin.
The club is very proud of its achievements over the past year, securing a substantial grant to resurface the track and purchase a new club Gazebo. Additionally, several riders have qualified for the BMX World Championships in Glasgow. Arlo Steimetz, Kye Waterhouse, Sahbina Ashman, Sophie Elwood, Jaimee Elwood, Joe Penton-Voak, Adam Brazil, Tom Palmer, Matt Bourne, Jai Kemp, Sharon Watts and Graham Watts will all be riding for the Great British team, hoping to secure the world championship plate, whilst having fun at the event in August!
