New Walking football club for people living with longterm conditions and impairment

Walking football is an evidence-based activity for people who have physical or cognitive impairments and long-term health conditions.  It is a safe, inclusive and fun activity, that promotes movement, social engagement and is mostly about fun with other people.

Each session provides a warmup that encourages coordination, balance and cognitive processes, this is ideal for those with cognitive and neurological conditions.

The football sessions are tailored to the members, the sport is non-contact, walking pace, with an emphasis on keeping the ball below shoulder height. People with all forms of physical limitations and impairments can get involved.

We recognise that people might want to bring their carer or support workers, even a friend or family member, and all are welcome to come along and take part if they wish.   Members have to be over 18 and everyone needs to register with the Walking football association to receive full injury insurance. There are no other restrictions.  The sessions will be run by a Graduate Sport Rehabilitator, and they will be supported by students from the Sport Rehabilitation programme at UWE Bristol, as part of their placement experience.
