Patchway Judo Club

judodPatchway Judo Club opened  at Patchway Youth Centre 24th September 2013. Ian Boulton, Chair of South Gloucestershire council, got in to the “spirit” of judo  at the  official opening!

Ian happily put on a judogi (judo suit) and did some judo with the clubs players. Ian is pictured about to throw Reece Peacock 1st Dan, who is one of two of the clubs Youth players, along with Mollie Finn, who have reached the final 4 in the national British judo association awards for “young volunteer of the year”, they know they have an award not whether it is the Gold, silver or bronze!

Last year Reece’s mum Emma won the British Judo Association Silver level club volunteer award and Alex Bright, one of the clubs newest qualified coaches one the silver level young volunteer award. The club is also in the final 4 for club of the year this year.

Everyone will find out which exact ward they have at an awards evening in Burton on Trent 16th November.

Andy Phelps, club chair, “we are really pleased to be in the final 4 for club of the year, we are very proud of our youth players. Fantastic that we have so many who are happy to volunteer and give back to the club. We have players at ever grade, from novice to 3rd Dan black belt and cater for recreational players through to players who compete internationally”.

Alison Finn, club secretary and coach “we pride ourselves on being a family club, supporting our members to be ‘the best they can be’ whether as a player, coach, official, referee or club volunteer. We are about to re validate our British judo association club mark award for the third time”

The club has 3 level 2 coaches and 3 level 1 coaches with two of the youth players doing the level 1 course next February.

There has been a judo club at the youth centre since in opened in the 1963! The club trains on Thursday’s & Saturday’s and caters from ages 5 to adult, first session is FREE!
