Report from the Bradley Stoke Bowls Club by Arthur Allan

bowls4The AGM of the Bradley Stoke Bowls Club was held at the Baileys Court Activity Centre on Thursday 22nd October. Some sixty members were welcomed by Chair Steve Lee

Prior to events members stood in silence to respect memory of Beryl Parsons.

The Captain George Eland then presented a cheque for £750.00 to Isobel Gelder, the representative from the charity BRACE, who addressed the meeting with a brief outline of what BRACE does and its hopes and aspirations.

Mike Mundy, from the Bradley Stoke Cricket Club, then addressed the members regarding the 25th anniversary of the Cricket Club next year.

The secretary Sue Arnold reported, inter alia, that the committee had worked well together and had brought the club forward. Meeting monthly had ensured that all areas were looked at and issues resolved quickly, smoothly and efficiently. The club had a superb Captain ’s charity day, thanks to all those who organised and ensured everything ran smoothly, yet again through the members generosity a large sum was raised for Brace. The website has photographs of that day and of the final weekend.   Sue then expressed a big thank you to Mark Arnold for maintaining the website. The club hosted another City & County game which had gone very well and had received very good feedback about the excellent state of the green. Reports were received from all other office-bearers, including the treasurer reporting on a generally satisfactory year. The playing record in friendlies and leagues had been satisfactory. Particularly encouraging had been the involvement of new members, 17 of whom took part in a new Novices Cup competition

This year several key positions became vacant: viz Chair Steve Lee, Vice Chair Mark Arnold, Captain George Eland, Competitions Secretary Denise Eland, Secretary Sue Arnold and raffle organizer Pat Wilkins all retiring after staunch service to the Club. The Club President Bill Plank thanked them warmly on behalf of the Club, stimulating   prolonged applause from the many members present.

New occupants were voted in to most of these positions and some new ones created.

In addition to away days to Bridport and Sydmouth, a short tour   to Torquay is planned for 12th to 16th September 2016.

The next formal meeting of Club members is scheduled for the 17th March, at the usual venue commencing at 6 pm, probably with a short EGM.
