Rugby: St Mary’s U11s v St Brendons

Match report by  Paul Graham  | Monday 10th December 2012

The team got off to great start in training, so much so the coaches were concerned what was going to happen in the game!  Usually we have a terrible warm up, and a great game, but this Sunday we had a great warm up, and an even better game. Training the last few weeks has focused mainly on rucking and passing, and in this game it was obvious what we had been working on. We started the game much stronger than St Brendons, and it was not long before the boys were on the score board. Lots of opportunities were made today, with some great rucking, and ball distribution. One of the best rucks had to be Nick F pushing what looked like half of the St Brendons team, over the top of Ethan who was led beneath them all, most of the first half St Marys dominated, finishing the first half 42 – 0.

The second half saw a stronger St Brendons, and it shows great strength of charecter to play as well as they did when considering the score line, but try as they might, they could not get over the score line despite several determined attempts. St Marys defended well and managed to defend line, forcing the ball to be held up over the St Mary line when being crossed twice, before being cleared. St Mary scored a further 14 point this half, making the final score 56 – 0

It was great to see some flowing rugby, with the ball being rucked, mauled and passed as well as we have seen any team play this year, with comments on how well the boys played coming from both visiting parents and coaches.  In this game we played some boys in positions they had not played before, and it was good to see some different names on the score sheet.

Forward of the day – George, who had a great game at prop
Back of the day – Sam C, paying a great game at full back

Well done boys keep it up!
