Springtime Cygnets at the Nature Reserve
May 9th, 2011
Whilst April brought much to celebrate for the local residents of Bradley Stoke, long weekends, a royal wedding and lots of sunshine; our residents of the feathered variety were celebrating for different reasons as the swans at the town’s nature reserve welcomed five fluffy cygnets into the world. The accompanying picture is believed to have been taken a matter of hours after the last of the five cygnets hatched and shows the happy family basking in the springtime sun.
Unfortunately, like all long weekends end and sun turns to rain, so has the celebration been soured for the family of swans. The five cygnets are now down to just two with local residents speculating that either the three unlucky cygnets were drowned in the weir or that one of the many urban foxes that inhabit the town had made them an Easter treat. Let’s hope that the remaining young survive through summer and the Swan family continue to grace the pond for many years to come!
