St Mary’s Mourn Mike Purnell

Mike has been a member of SMOB since his son Jacob joined the minis at the age of 4. Mike could be heard for miles and when not on the pitch found behind the bar helping out pulling pints.
Unfortunately, Mike lost his battle to bowel cancer in January this year, leaving a massive hole in the lives of many people, especially his wife Marie and 3 boys Martin, Joshua and Jacob. Mike could be heard before seen, either of the football pitches of Stoke Lane or Almondsbury watching Joshua play football or at St Mary’s rugby club watching Jacob. Jacob continues to play for our U14s, alongside his cousin Paisley Clark. Mike also has a connection with Clevedon Rugby where he played his own rugby and where his other nephew Mason Purnell now plays.
SMOB have organised a special match to be played for the Mike Purnell Cup between Clevedon and St Mary’s U14s on Sunday 26th March at Trench Lane in Mike’s honour.
The match and associated raffle will be a fundraiser for St Peters Hospice who supported Mike and his family through their very difficult time. All welcome to come and support the Club and St Peters.
