ST MARY’S RUGBY CLUB U13s on tour to Champs Sur Marne this Easter

We caught up with Mark Barrowman from St Mary’s Old Boys Rugby Club today and were interested to hear about the U13s forthcoming tour to Champs sur Marne in France – Bradley Stoke’s twinned town.

The U13s team have been busy fundraising for this event for the last two years – you may have seen them backpacking at Tesco’s (they apologise for any broken eggs)!   They set themselves the fundraising target to ensure that all the players would be able to travel for free so that cost wouldn’t be a prohibitive factor for families.   The team initially fell £400 short of this target but Bradley Stoke Town Council kindly met the shortfall with a grant in order to encourage the group to make the trip to our twinned town.

The 22 players, their coaches, parents and siblings (travelling at their own expense) will be leaving Bradley Stoke on the evening of Thursday 28 March and travelling by coach and minibus overnight to a campsite at Nogent Sur Marne (next to Champs).   The plan is that Good Friday will be a cultural day taking in the sights of Paris, before the main event on Saturday when there will be a presentation with the local rugby club and council and a 3-way rugby tournament between SMOB, Champs sur Marne and an additional local team.   Parents will also be encourged to participate in the fun with a parents tug-of-war.

The activities will be followed by a dinner in the evening and then on Sunday players and their families are planning to enjoy a fun-filled day at Disney before travelling home on the Monday.

We wish the boys the very best of luck and look forward to hearing more about the tour on their return.
