Summer saw an exciting term of celebrations at 1st Little Stoke Scout, Cub and Beavers

As a Group 1st Little Stoke Celebrated 70 years at the start of February.  To celebrate this exciting event 2 celebratory gatherings happened in July.  To mark this milestone the group ran an exciting competition to design a special 70 years badge, and at the celebratory evening the winning entrants were presented with their prizes.

During the afternoon tea celebrations which was attended by a number of ex-leaders, 1st Little Stoke Scout members and Leaders, 3 investitures were made, welcoming new members into the body of Scouting.  Presentations were made to ex-cub leader Martina, who retired from scouting just before covid after 15 years of service to the group.  She made an emotional speech stressing the impact scouting had on her life, and explaining how much she missed the group and still enjoyed bumping into old cubs who reminisced with their favourite memories.

A presentation of Award for Merit was also made to John, who had come along over 20 years ago to support the Scouts when his son joined and has never left.  He regularly attends Scout meetings, goes on camps and enjoys being the choir master at Christmas teaching all the groups the songs required.

The cake was then cut by Clive Mason, Brunel District Commissioner, and the newly invested, youngest member to join the group, Mohammad.

A second evening was held later in July celebrating past and present leaders of 1st Little Stoke.

On this evening 45 leaders and former leaders attended and 25 years of service awards were made to Sally Alford, Brian Bird and Bob Smythe.  A cake was cut by Tony Edmonds GSL and David Hutton who has over 40 years service with the group, David was given a gift for all his help in arranging the evening.

The Scout Section are finishing this term with two nights under canvas in Bath.  This will be in place of the normal week long summer camp, which will be running again next summer.  The leaders are looking forward to giving the 17 Scouts attending a taste of a true Scout camp, with the patrols being responsible for their own cooking, cleaning and tent organisation.  This will be the perfect way for the Scouting section to end the summer term, testing out all the skills they have learnt throughout the year.

All three sections are currently desperate for leaders and parent helpers, as the popularity of the group has increased significantly since the Covid restrictions have lifted.  Assisting at any of the groups is an extremely exciting and rewarding experience, and full training is available.

We are also looking for Volunteers to join the Exec committee.
