TJ’s Junior Netball Club

There was much excitement on Sunday when TJ s U12 netball team played their first game in the Avon League.   The team members all live in the Bradley Stoke, Patchway, Olveston or Stoke Gifford areas and travelled over to The Grange School in Warmley where all matches are played.

Some of the   TJ s players had been playing for a couple of years with the club whereas others had only started in October but for all of them it was their first experience of playing as a team in a League.   Their opponents were Royals from Clevedon who were also new to the League.   Enthusiasm and energy were running in overdrive but there were last minute nerves too!

Royals were much more experienced than TJ s however and the final result after four quarters of play was a heavy defeat by 51 goals. Royals were clearly stronger and had been playing together for much longer.   But the TJ s players all from local schools improved as the game went on and there were several pieces of skilful play.   Interceptions by the GK and GD in defence stopped the score being even higher and accurate passing down the court led to several opportunities to score.   All the TJ s players learned a lot about how to play the game in a competitive environment and about tactics.   Despite losing the game, no-one could fault their hard work right until the final whistle and the large crowd of parents and supporters gave both teams applause at the end.

TJ s players will play another match next Sunday and hope to improve on this week s score although few teams will be able to match their enthusiasm and hard work.   Well done girls!

If anyone would like to join TJ s, they play on a Tuesday night at The Jubilee Centre starting at 6.30.
