Update from the Bradley Stoke Lions Club:January 27th, 2016
To cheer up a bleak January, the Bradley Stoke Lions enjoyed yet another Pudding Night at President Ailsa’s home. 24 Lions and guests tucked into 14 assorted puddings, some of which are shown here, and a wide selection of cheeses also went down well.
Our grateful thanks go to our generous residents in Bradley Stoke who supported Santa Claus & his Sleigh this December and to Morrisons Supermarket who allowed us to collect on their premises on 12th December. We collected a grand total of £1,161.79 this year, all of which will go towards needy causes.
A number of Lions gave up some of their time over the Festive Season to volunteer at Caring at Christmas in Little Bishop Street, St Paul’s, where the homeless & the lonely can enjoy three hot meals a day plus all the sandwiches and hot/cold drinks they want. Overnight accommodation for up to 70 people per night was much appreciated, as well as the services of a hairdresser, chiropodist & masseur. Many companies big & small donated cakes, biscuits, fruit & chocolates which was especially welcome and guests & volunteers alike enjoyed a warm, sociable Yule tide playing cards & board games, table tennis, pool and watching films. Three members of Tescos Charity Team at Willowbrook also volunteered and between us all we did a total of 136 hours voluntary service. The down side of this is that there were even more people needing support this year than previously, the up side is that those there enjoyed the care and attention not usually experienced whilst living rough.Tags: Bradley Stoke, lions Back to news
