Want to make Your community better?
October 13th, 2010If you are a resident of South Gloucestershire who cares about your community and wants to make it a place to be proud of, look out for a campaign that could be right up your street.
South Gloucestershire Council launched a radio and poster campaign on Monday (11th October), encouraging people who live in the area and want to get involved to help get things done to join a network of Safer Stronger Community Organisers.
Cllr Heather Goddard, executive member for communities, said: “There are many benefits to signing up, ranging from improving your skills and knowledge to get on at work and in life, to making real changes happen in your local community by putting forward your ideas and influencing local decision making. South Gloucestershire’s local campaign complements the coalition Government’s Big Society agenda which encourages more people to get involved in community life. You can register your interest at www.mybettercommunity.com whatever your age, but we are particularly interested in hearing from you if you are aged 18-35, as this age group isn’t represented enough and we want your voice to be heard.”
The campaign is running in conjunction with the coalition Government’s plans for a “Big Society” which encourages more people to get involved in community life.
Heart FM radio will be running radio advertisements between October 11 and 31, backed by a poster campaign and a webpage. There will be three evening information events held during November for people who have registered an interest in taking part; 10 November in Thornbury, 18 November in Yate and 24 November in Kingswood.
