We Will Remember Them

This Saturday 2nd August there will be a Dedication Service for the new memorial in the Town Square also commemorating the Centenary of the First World War.
Bradley Stoke Scout Group will lead the parade from the Jubilee Centre at 10.15 prior to the start of the service at 10.30. Dame Janet Trotter, DBE, Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire will read the dedication and the Revd Simon Jones, Area Dean for Kingswood & South Glos will conduct the blessing.
Young people from 1st Bradley Stoke will read out the Exhortation and the Legion s bugler will sound the Last Post and there will be a 2 minute silence. Brian C Hewitt, MBE, President, Stoke Gifford Branch, the Royal British Legion will be participating in the service along with Revd Paul Hinkley and more young people will also be giving personal statements of what Remembrance means to them.
Wreaths will be laid at the memorial and 100 candles will be lit around the memorial to mark WW1 centenary & links us to the Legion s Lights Out campaign & the candlelit ceremony planned at Westminster Abbey for Monday evening.
There will be 2 bands will be in attendance, Bristol Pipes & Drums for the parade and the Thornbury Town Band for the town square. There will also be a small exhibition stand all about the First World War, with special emphasis on the history of Scouting during the war which will be up in the WillowBrook centre for people to look at after the ceremony.
Residents welcome to participate.
