ART DECO CERAMICS – FROM CLARICE CLIFF AND SUSIE COOPER TO RUSKIN6306
South Glos DFAS expect a record attendance for Diana Lloyds’ popular lecture on these ever popular ceramic artists. Fortunately our excellent venue at Bradley Stoke Community School has plenty of space for Guests and potential new Members so contact Sally or Mary (details below) to join us. The Art Deco style is essentially a return to Classicism, beginning its development just before the First World War and becoming the commercial style that gained its name from the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris. The distinctive use of shape and colour by Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper epitomises the pottery of the ‘20’s. Susie Cooper utilized the latest transfer and lithographical techniques alongside the (then) cheap and cheerful hand painted tea services of Clarice Cliff, with the Ruskin Pottery using Sung glazes to emphasize the classical approach of the period. Diana will also touch briefly on the emergence of the individual studio potter. Refreshments from 7.00 pm, welcome and slide illustrated lecture at 7.30 pm. Good parking & easy access.
