Abbeywood Community School enjoys another solid set of GCSE results

The second cohort of students to sit the new, more challenging GCSEs at Abbeywood Community School have improved on the exam performance of last year. Following on from A Level examination success last week, GCSE results at Abbeywood Community School have seen a positive increase in the number of students attaining grade 5 and above in both GCSE English and Maths. 57% of students attained a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths and over a third achieved a grade 5 in both subjects. Many students now look forward to returning to the school in September to commence their A Levels at Abbeywood’s thriving Post 16 centre.

Bucking the national trend, it was the boys at Abbeywood who outperformed the girls this year, and in Maths the percentage of students achieving the harder ‘strong pass’ (old B, new 5+) rose from 30% to 47%

In addition to an overall trend of improvement, there have been some notable excellent individual performances:

George Beavan 2 x 9, 4 x 8, 1 x A, 1 x 7

Cai Davies 2 x 9, 3 x 8, 3 x 7, 1 x A

Chris Yalamov 2 x 9, 1 x 8, 4 x 7, 1 x A, 1 x 5

Cayleigh Williams 1 x 9, 4 x 8, 3 x 7, 1 x 6

Denisa Racaceanu 1 x 9, 1 x 8, 1x Dist.*, 1 x A, 5 x 7

Amy Bamford 2 x 8, 3 x 7, 1 x A, 3 x 6

“Many congratulations to our 2018 Year 11 cohort in securing another very positive set of GCSE exam results. I am very proud of our students’ achievements, which are the result of considerable determination, resilience and engagement, as well as the expertise and commitment of our amazing staff. We look forward to welcoming many of our students back into Post 16 in September where we are sure they will continue their successful journey with us”. Dave Howe, Headteacher

It’s great to see so many of this Abbeywood cohort achieve so well. Many have achieved the higher new number grades, which sets them up very well for their future study and work next year and beyond. Well done to the colleagues from across the Trust who have collaborated so effectively to support each other and ultimately our students.” Dave Baker, Chief Executive Officer, Olympus Academy Trust
