A-Level Student, Pippa Gale, 18, from Stoke Gifford, achieved A, B, B in Sociology, English Language and Politics. In year 7 and 8 Pippa was recognised as gifted and talented yet the move to year 9 saw Pippa excluded from two secondary schools and spent the majority of years 9 and 10 in isolation in exclusion rooms. Pippa arrived at SGS College on an Early College Placement at 15 years old to study on the Full Time GCSE programme.

Pippa comments: “The teachers at SGS persisted with me despite my outward attitude they helped me to face my inner demons. I was given anger management, offered support and counselling.

“GCSE was a pivotal moment of my life at 15 where everything changed and I realised the importance of education at that it is the key to future success.

“Some young people study A-levels because schools encourage this as the only successful option going forward. I feel that this can affect students’ self-belief and motivation as many could be better on apprenticeships and other types of courses so schools should encourage young people to explore all the options available to them – this is what SGS college do. ”

Speaking about her A-Level results Pippa comments: “I m delighted with my results. College has been great and I m now looking forward to moving to London to go to university and start a new chapter.

I feel that a Sociology degree will prepare me well to move into the public sector. I want to uncover injustice and help other people realise their potential in the same way that teachers here at SGS have helped me to do. ”

Vice Principal, Sara-Jane Watkins, comments: “I am delighted by the performance of our students and the results they have achieved. It is testament to their hard work and also to the skills and experience of our teaching staff.

“Students here speak very positively about their experience and the beneficial impact the College has had on their lives, and that it has provided them with the perfect transition from school to university or employment. We wish them every success in their future studies and careers. ”
