Baileys Court Primary School weekly Science Blog
June 7th, 2015
Bradley Stoke Matters has been pleased to receive a further update from the pupils at Baileys Court Primary School at their weekly science lesson with UWE.
First of all one class took a reading of the MFC s. After that, we were introduced to some new visitors: John, George, Pavlina and Mr Knaptin. Then John and Mr Knaptin started showing us a line graph about the experiment that we are doing. One class had to draw a line graph showing how many millivolts had our MFC s, microbial fuel cells, produced during the 11th-14th of May and the other class did all the days possible. In our groups, we worked in partners to do them.
After that, George and Pavlina told us about the small experiment we were doing. We were experimenting whether the bacteria in our MFC s would like more or less diluted Ribena. We started talking about how much Ribena and how much water we would mix together and put into our MFCs. In our groups in one class, we made 1:10 dilution, 1:5 dilution and 1:2 dilution and in the other class we did only water, 1:10 dilution, 1:5 dilution, 1:2 dilution and 1:1 dilution. We lined the jars up and seen what difference the dilution made. After, George and Pavlina told us to suck the muddy water out of our MFC s and put the pure water into our MFC s. We then took a reading of the pure water and then sucked it all out and put the 1:10 dilution in. Most groups only got up to 1:10 dilution and a few got up to 1:5. Our teachers told us that we would continue doing this experiment on Thursday and Friday. George, John, Pavlina and Mr Knaptin all said goodbye and the weekly science lesson was finished.
We had fun this week and can t wait for next week s lesson.
