Bradley Stoke Community School Presents, A Scary Play!

In June, students from Bradley Stoke Commuity School produced a fantastic performance of A Scary Play to around 300 audience members.

The production was hugely student-led, with a cast and crew of at least 40 students, and I have been blown away with their professionalism. They were totally self-reliant with just one staff member assisting in the tech box, even on the first performance!

As a drama department, we wanted to put on a thrilling play that would inspire and intrigue. Scary Play is from a collection of plays for children and young people by the National Theatre called Connections and is a story about a group of friends who embark on a dangerous and spinechilling adventure into an abandoned house.

The friends battle their fear of the unknown, frightening nightmares and a sibling duo have the strength of their relationship tested by an un-nerving villain and their freakish pets. This story forces us to question whether or not we can have any empathy for a deeply troubled antagonist.

Fear and nightmares have been interesting topics to explore with students in today’s ever changing world. We started rehearsals by sharing any fears we have that are actually quite funny, which was a really bonding experience, and hopefully made these things a bit less scary too.

In a world where the performing arts are increasingly at risk, Bradley Stoke Community School is proud to be giving these opportunities for students to thrive both on and backstage.

We look forward to our 2027 production!
