Bradley Stoke Rotary Clubs Annual Handover dinner

IMG_7256Bradley Stoke Matters were delighted to be invited to the Bradley Stoke Rotary Club s annual handover dinner on Wednesday 1st July.

Roger Worth started the after dinner speeches by thanking all Rotarians and their partners for supporting him in his role as President for the last year. We were amazed at the staggering amount of £12,936 raised by the club on behalf of or donated to charities such as Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Knutty Knitters /St Peter s Hospice. It was interesting to hear how much the local group do for and also give back to the local community.

You may have seen Rotarians at the Willowbrook Centre showcasing the local club or at the Bradley Stoke Festival. They also sit on the Bradley Stoke Carnival committee assisting in the planning and running of this summer annual event. Bradley Stoke Rotary Club sponsor the annual Music Rules project and along with Christine Wright from South Glos Music Hub have ensured less abled children have a thoroughly enjoyable day. Other annual events organised locally by the club include Young Chef ( involving students from 3 local schools cooking in a Master Chef style competition) and the Swimathon (allowing local groups and organisations to fundraise for themselves as well as donating a percentage to the Rotary nominated charities).

On thanking all Rotarians for their efforts, Roger then handed over his chain of office to Mr Robert Warne who is now President for 2015/16 ably assisted by Karen Holley as Vice President and Steve Bateman as Junior Vice. Rotarians have a get succession plan meaning that Steve will become President elect for 2017/18 IMG_7253

Robert (Bob) shared his vision for the forthcoming year – with the emphasis on fun. He then welcomed the club s newest member, Fran Ashby  concluding he would be utilising her experience and knowledge gained from a previous Inner Wheel club.IMG_7255

It s apparent that the members get on very well; in fact a number have recently returned from visiting the Champs – sur – Marne club in France to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Bradley Stoke Rotarian s have a diverse set of skills and work well together as well as complimenting each other. Whether you enjoy community events or prefer to work behind the scenes, the Bradley Stoke Rotary Club are always looking for additional members to assist them. Please call Peter Randall on 01454 610777 to discuss opportunities in more detail.
