BSTFC Reserves in 7 heaven (7-1 win)

A depleted Reserve side managed an emphatic win, despite missing a number of key players. The Reserves played host to Talbot Knowle United on a heavy pitch at Bradley Stoke Community School on Saturday (9th February). Due to absences and injuries in the 1st Team the Reserves were missing key personnel. However, this did not cause too many problems for the side who had Chris Hughes from the A Team playing in the centre of midfield and Adam Sykes from the 1st Team on the right.
The Reserves were looking dangerous right from the start of the game and chances were being created down the wings by Zobir Homoyoun and Adam Sykes. The deadlock was soon broken and it was a through ball from Homoyoun to Carl O’Connell who managed to beat the off side trap before calmly slotting the ball home. The Reserves continued to pressure the away side and were soon two up with a carbon copy of the first goal O’Connell again finding the net.
Despite the home side having a number of chances this was how the score stayed until half time. The feeling among the co managers was that this was the home side’s game to win.
The third goal came courtesy of Adam Sykes, who collected the ball 20 yards out from his own goal to take the ball pass two Talbot players before finishing with a 20 yard chip over the keeper. From that moment on it was all Bradley Stoke, and numerous chances began to come their way with Homoyoun creating lots of openings just unable to deliver the end product. However, despite this he did create a lot for the Reserve side and assisted in O’Connell in getting his third and forth goals, as well as his shot rebounding favourably to Jon Morrison to finish the rout.
The other goal of the game came from man of the match Chris Hughes, after some strong work on the right he passed the ball to Sykes who raced to the by-line and cut the ball back for Hughes to tap in. Hughes had a great performance for the Reserve side, showing some great strength in the middle of the pitch. Impressing the Reserve managers he will now be battling to try and cement a place in the side.
The only disappointing moments from the match was the conceding of the goal and the fact the score line should have been double figures. However, this will give the Reserve side some confidence as they play low placed Soundwell next week.
